…not to take away from our Memorial Day which is already deeply meaningful, I want to point out that there are memorials in heaven not related to earthly wars but for each believer who lives a life of devoutness, sincerity and obedience.

God seems to notice - and in the case of Cornelius, God rewards!

Cornelius was immortalized in scripture for his role in the Holy Spirit first coming to Gentiles!

Note that the only qualification Cornelius had was that he prayed much and gave much - perhaps our understanding and embracing this will lead to God using us in a big way!

[NOTE: I edited my original comment slightly, originally my wording might have lead one to believe there is an actual Memorial Day in heaven]

Acts 10:4 says nothing about a “day,” and God isn’t bound by time in the way that his finite creatures are. Does God “remember” his children? You bet–from before the foundation of the world and throughout eternity! But no reasonable interpretation of Acts 10:4 supports the inference that there is a “memorial DAY for each believer.” God is always remembering all of his children.

    Chip,

    thanks for this!

Yes, there’s no “day” - a little careless in my wording… I was “waxing inspirational” and not meaning to spread bad theology…

Not a whole lot of words said here, but there was a whole lot said. What an insightful comment to add to this scripture! I love it. I need all the help I can get in seeing the life lessons and specific truths in God’s word as it does not always jump out at me. Great lesson! Awesome!

Probably a stretch, but I infer from the fact that Cornelius offered prayers and alms to honor God that he (Cornelius) had a heart for God, which is important to God; Prov 17:3, 1Sam 16:7.

God bless you, G. It shows real maturity of a christian when he can in humility admit that perhaps he was wrong. I admire you.
The Bible also says “Great peace have they which love Thy law, and nothing shall offend them.”
So regardless of whether there is ‘time’ or ‘days’ in heaven or not, those who come to the end of this life’s war, (for we are in constant spiritual warfare), as you mentioned, we will receive great rewards and recommendation. Seeing as it also speaks of a day being as a thousand years with the Lord, and vice-versa, if we remain faithful we might even get a millennium. ;-)

Before leading worship, I asked if someone from the congregation would read this verse. It had an impact. Thank you for your ministry! I drive a semi truck and I get the devotionals on my cell phone. It really helps prepare me for worship on Sundays. I might miss one every now and then but the ones I do meditate on always come at the right time.

    Thanks!
    Brian
