1 Corinthians 10:13
Thursday, May 22nd, 2008No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

I often think of this scripture as God’s way of letting us know that we are able to handle more than we realize.
If the Lord DOESN’T provide a way of escape, could it mean that He is confident we can bear that situation? That could mean there are times where there is comfort and encouragement when the Lord doesn’t respond! He may be saying to you in His silence “you can handle it!”
Having the ability to know us as He does, its interesting to think that He could have confidence in us sometimes when we don’t…

This is one of my favorite verses, it speaks to me of possibilities, of the victory we have in Christ. What ever situation I’m in, He is there, and He provides me with all I need to let His glory shine whatever comes my way.
This passage stand in the middle of the bad example the Israelites were (1Cor 10.7), and the admonition not to imitate them by idolatry, we are to keep the faith no mater what.
This passage reminds me of the promise in Luc 1.73-75 “the oath which He swore to our father Abraham, that He would grant to us, that we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear in holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.”
So this passage is a clear encouragement to stand firm in my faith for God gives me without failing a way to do so. I only need to turn towards him when temptation comes my way.
May God keep you in he love, and may he give you to bear much fruit for his glory, for this is his promise for those who remain in him

George, I just had to respond to your insight because it reminded me of what my son said about Marine Corps boot camp! He said he found out that physically you can do SO much more than you ever thought you could, which is pretty common knowledge, but it parallels the spiritual fight we’re in. Although at the time it was tough, he came out a different, stronger, more confident person and that never would have happened if he hadn’t stuck it out. There was a “way of escape,” but to have taken it would have meant giving up the achievements that came out of the struggles!
Also, though, I read the scripture again and it says “WITH the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it,” and it seems to me that the “way of escape” could mean a spiritual hiding place provided by God, a respite, a supernatural way to bear the situation, sort of like when people get their second wind when running a marathon. Or it could mean that when we are tempted, He will always place before us a very clear way out, another choice, and to wait because He WILL provide it and not to give up before we see it.
Anyway, thank you for your service to Him, and for listening to my thoughts!

Good insights!
Good observation that the verse says “WITH the temptation…” - compare Psalm 23 - “though I walk THROUGH the valley of the shadow of death…” often temptation, trials, tribulation and such arent circumvented but God certainly brings us through!
