Deuteronomy 13:1-4

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

“If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods’—which you have not known—‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

You shall walk after the LORD your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him…”

Matthew 28:18-20

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Jesus told us:

“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

[Solomon writes of the vanity, inequity and irony of life, but then says:]

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:

Fear God and keep His commandments,
For this is man’s all. (KJV: “This is the whole duty of man”)

For God will bring every work into judgment,
Including every secret thing,
Whether good or evil.

Deuteronomy 30:11-14

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

The Lord told Moses to say to all His people:

“…For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off.

It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’

Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’

But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it…”

Matthew 15:7-9

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Jesus said to the Scribes and Pharisees (the legalists and the self-righteous):

“Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:

‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth,
And honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ “

Matthew 22:34-40

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

A “lawyer” asked Jesus a question to test Him:

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”

Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
